Androstenedione, Serum


Reference Range

Androstenedione is a 19-carbon steroid hormone produced in the adrenal glands and the gonads as an intermediate step in the biochemical pathway that produces testosterone, estrogens and estradiol. Androstenedione is useful in investigating the cause of high testosterone levels in women, and in management of patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

Special Requirements

Stable for 24 Hrs at 2-8 °C. For longer transit time or storage keep frozen. Diurnal variation in Androstenedione levels have been observed. Lipemic or hemolysed samples are not acceptable.
