Toxocara canis (also known as dog roundworm) is a worldwide distributed helminth parasite of dogs and other canids. Toxocariasis is an infection caused by the larvae of parasitic worms Toxocara canis through the migration of the larvae from the roundworm Toxocara to organs and tissues. There are three types of toxocariasis: Visceral larval migrans (VLM), Ocular larval migrans (OLM), and the third causing neurologic disease when the larvae migrate to the central nervous system. Symptoms include fever, anorexia, hepatosplenomegaly, rash, pneumonitis, asthma, or visual impairment. This test is useful in the diagnosis of toxocariasis.
