Anti-skin antibodies are responsible for various autoimmune diseases of the epidermis and dermoepidermal junction.There are two distinct types of skin autoantibodies that detect different skin components: anti-basement membrane antibodies associated with bullous pemphigoid, and anti- extracellular matrix antibodies associated with pemphigus. Both these diseases involve blistering of the skin.
