Anti Skeletal Muscle Antibodies, Serum

2Day(s)

Reference Range

Anti-skeletal muscle antibodies are present in patients with Myasthenia gravis (MG); an autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system’s antibodies to attack skeletal muscles causing extreme muscle weakness and fatigue. These antibodies are specifically directed toward the acetylcholine receptor, located at the neuromuscular junction of skeletal muscles. Therefore, the main marker remains the presence of anti-acetylcholine receptor antibodies but the presence of anti-skeletal muscle antibodies correlates with progression to thymoma.
