Alpha-2-Antiplasmin is a serine protease inhibitor responsible for inactivating plasmin, which is an important enzyme that participates in fibrinolysis and degradation of various other proteins. Alpha-2-Antiplasmin is synthesized in the liver and its levels fall in serious liver disease. Hence, this test is used in the diagnosis and follow-up of parenchymatous liver disease.
