Reference Range

Anti Mitochondrial Antibodies (AMA) are autoantibodies of the IgG class directed against components of the mitochondria. This test is an early marker for primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), a cholestatic disease which mainly affects middle-aged women. This disease usually begins insidiously and manifests as pruritis and jaundice. Low levels of AMA are also found in chronic active hepatitis.
