Albumin, Serum

1 Day(s)

المجموعة المرجعية

Albumin is a carbohydrate-free protein, representing 55-65% of the total plasma proteins. It maintains the plasma colloidal osmotic pressure, transports and stores a wide variety of ligands, and serves as a source of endogenous amino acids. HIGH levels of albumin (Hyperalbuminemia) are of little diagnostic significance except in dehydration. LOW levels of albumin (Hypoalbuminemia) are associated with Ascites, extensive burns, glomerulonephritis, liver disease (hepatitis, cirrhosis, or hepatocellular necrosis), malabsorption syndromes (Crohn’s disease, sprue, or Whipple’s disease), malnutrition, or Nephrotic syndrome.
