Reference Range

Gentamcin is a bactericidal aminoside antibiotic which inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes. Its natural antibacterial spectrum covers: Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococci. It must be administered parenterally (IV or IM). It can cause renal and cochleovestibular toxicity at plasma concentrations well above the normal therapeutic range.

Special Requirements

Sampling time for peak is 30-60 min after administration. Trough sampling is immediately before next dose. Freeze sample if not analysed within 4-6 Hrs.
