17-Hydroxypregnenolone is a prostagen produced from the hydroxylation of Pregnenolone, and is secreted by both the gonads and adrenal glands. It is considered a prohormone in the formation of Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and 17-Hydroxyprogesterone. The measurement of 17-Hydroxypregnenolone is useful in the diagnosis of certain forms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. ELEVATED levels are seen in adrenal carcinoma, most cases of hirsutism, and Polycystic Ovarian Disease. Other related tests: 3-a-Androstanediol Glucuronide, Androstenedione, DHEA and DHEA-S.
