Beta-2-Microglobulin (b2-M), Serum

Reference Range

Beta-2-microglobulin (b2M) is a component of MHC class I molecules, which are present on almost all cells of the body. This test is useful in the diagnosis of multiple myeloma and is often used to determine the cause of renal failure. A RISE in B2M level is associated with multiple myeloma, and lymphomas. It can also be present in many other conditions including Crohn’s disease, hepatitis, AIDS, autoimmune disease, and nephrotoxicity due to impaired renal filtration.
